Week 7: Creating, Reuse and Communication

This week’s topic is the responsible use of online environments. Interestingly young people, the so called digital natives, use online tools without much problem for entertainment. Nevertheless, when it comes to learning purposes quite a lot them doesn’t know how to use it’s potential. This was quite visible during the pandemic caused lock-down.

Another very crucial factor is the knowledge about risk factors when using online environments. So the first task was to explore UNICEF – Staying safe online:  https://www.unicef.org/online-safety/ and other resources and discuss/share some points in the forum.

This is one of my posts:

Hello everybody,

I have just skimmed the report and the part about Germany caught my attention. It was very interesting (I actually do not know whether the word is appropriate here) to read that it is quite often the carelessness of adults that put children at risk online, since adults are used to share pictures of their children without their permission hurting their personal rights.

I also experience, that first adults, like parents and often teachers, have to raise their awareness on the topic, so that children can actually see and experience a good way to deal with the online world. Otherwise it is teaching without sustainability.

Best wishes,

Katharina

I received some reactions on this post and the writer shared the same concerns. I also got a suggestion for a website for parents: https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/safer-internet-day-2020/i-am-parent-or-carer .

An alternative is https://www.commonsensemedia.org/privacy-and-internet-safety .

The second task for this week is to create one digital scenario to develop learners‘ digital competencies.
